Meet your Pilates Instructors
We’re looking forward to getting to know you, so here’s a little about us.
and here’s why regular Pilates classes with me will have a positive impact on your health, life and well-being…
For me, Pilates has been a way of life for the past 14 years, and I hope The Core Pilates studio will be around for a very long time! I’ve worked with hundreds of clients who all had one thing in common – they needed to improve and strengthen their body in some way. Every one of them had their own unique set of issues that I addressed, using my knowledge and skills, while also taking into account their mobility. There’s nothing more rewarding than using my expertise to help people improve and overcome their health issues.
A love of playing volleyball from the age of 11 years old is what peaked my interest in sports therapies. Intense training between the ages of 15-19 without proper after care meant I suffered many injuries that needed lots of physiotherapy. Although it was anything but fun at the time, talking regularly with my physio proved to be an enlightening experience. I learned a lot about how joints and muscles work, and gained an understanding of how to speed up my recovery each time. I changed my degree from biology to physiotherapy and later gained all Pilates mat, equipment and studio qualifications, ranging from Rehab to Advanced Classical Pilates. I’m now the proud owner of The Core Pilates studio in Welwyn Garden City.
And I can read you like a book! A background in physiotherapy, combined with my expertise, and the power of Pilates means that I’ve tackled even the most challenging rehabilitation cases such as:
disc problems
hip replacements
spinal fractures
neuropathic and neurosurgery cases
ante and post natal care
Your well-being is my primary concern. That means you’ll always have an individually tailored set of exercises to do, whether we’re working 1-1 or in a small class situation.
That’s right, the door is open to everyone because everyone can do Pilates! My clients at The Core Pilates are a broad spectrum of ages, shapes, sizes and fitness levels. A mixture of major, minor and no injuries are present in every class, yet everyone works alongside each other easily, as they perform exercises specific to their personal needs. My sessions give you a dedicated hour to work on the areas of your body that need extra support. Good posture, increasing strength, flexibility and improving circulation are at the heart of what I teach, and everyone can gain these benefits after a very short time exercising at The Core Pilates studio.
We all lead busy lifestyles so to make sure there is a time to suit you, there’s a broad range of 1 hour classes available throughout the week at The Core Pilates studio. Every equipment session I run is open to any level; whether you’re a beginner or advanced, have some type of injury or, just want to increase your flexibility and core strength. a specialist in equipment, mat work and pregnancy Pilates, helping women to maintain fitness, strength and recovery…
My interest in movement started during my teens, when a skiing injury and consequent surgery on my knees introduced me to the world of physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Working with fantastic practitioners enabled me to return to my sport, and ignited my passion to learn these skills too. I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2003, and used my skills to treat and rehabilitate others at The Royal Free Hospital, a leading teaching hospital in Hampstead, North London.
Since 2007, I specialised in musculoskeletal outpatients, orthopaedics and women’s health. Experience has shown me that addressing joint mobility, muscle dysfunction and imbalance is a vital part of treatment for a whole variety of problems. In 2010, I gained the Mat Work Pilates certification, and ran private Pilates classes that used the whole range of my skills. I’m looking forward to sharing this knowledge with you during each class at The Core Pilates studio.
If you’ve never tried Pilates before, then you’ll love our classes. My pregnancy and mat work clients at The Core Pilates are all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness levels, and many are complete beginners. A mixture of major, minor and no injuries are present in every class, and you’ll all work easily alongside each other, performing exercises specific to your own abilities. My sessions give you a dedicated hour to work on the areas of your body that need extra support. Good posture, increasing strength, flexibility and improving circulation are at the heart of what I teach, and everyone can gain these benefits after a very short time exercising at The Core Pilates studio.
I have a special interest in pre and postnatal pregnancy, thanks to my past roles of treating and educating pregnant and postnatal ladies. I’ve had specific training in antenatal and postnatal Pilates, and experienced pregnancy-related pain, so understand it from all angles. The pregnancy mat work classes are perfect for ladies throughout the whole nine months, while the postnatal classes helps your body to recover.
Both pregnancy and postnatal classes use a full range of Body Balance studio equipment including:
clinical reformers
trapeze tables
ladder barrel
chairs
mat work
foam rollers
weighted balls
flex rings
elastic bands
exercise balls
Pilates can be hugely beneficial in preventing or helping to manage symptoms that occur during pregnancy. It’s a safe and effective way for you to maintain fitness and strength during a time of great change. Bringing your baby to classes in the postnatal period can help to speed up your recovery from labour, and is a wonderful opportunity to bond with your baby and other new mums.
My equipment and mat work classes use a full range of Body Balanced Pilates studio equipment including:
clinical reformers
trapeze tables
ladder barrel
chairs
I complement my mat work with:
weighted balls
foam rollers
flex ring
elastic bands
You’ll always work within your own abilities, raising awareness of your own body, while continually developing strength and flexibility.
I also run 1-1 or 1-2 sessions for any clients looking for an even more personalised and tailored session in The Core Pilates studio.
If you are brand new to our Pilates studio and would like to start attending classes, you first need to fill in a health questionnaire and attend two 1-1 sessions so that your mobility can be individually assessed. a specialist in large equipment and mat work Pilates, helping clients to move without pain and get them back to doing the things they love…
I have always had a love of HIT Training especially spinning but after the birth of my three children I experienced back pain through the neglect of my core strength.
Pilates changed my life and having experienced first hand how it had such a positive effect on my body and my well-being, I decided to become a teacher to share my knowledge and passion for Pilates with others.
I love sharing the benefits of Pilates with others as it means I get to meet new clients and listen to the journey of events that has brought them to the class. We then work together to find the best Pilates exercises that will once again help them to move without pain and, get them back to doing the things they love.
I trained with Peak Pilates who teach instructors worldwide and qualified in February 2015. Peak Pilates are rooted in classical Pilates and the comprehensive instructor certification covers the full breadth of traditional Pilates, while also leaving room for more contemporary exercises, flows and teaching styles.
I am a Peak Pilates® Comprehensively Certified Instructor Level 2 and Peak Pilates MVE Chair Instructor. I am always seeking to improve my knowledge and attend workshops on a regular basis to continue my education.
My classes are open and to everyone whether you’re a beginner or advanced, as I tailor everything to your own ability. Every class uses a combination of equipment and mat work, using a full range of Body Balanced Pilates studio equipment including:
clinical reformers

I complement mat work with:

a specialist for the elderly and those with osteoporosis and scoliosis, giving them the tools for ease of movement to help maintain an active lifestyle…
I discovered Pilates in 2003 whilst trying various different approaches to manage my own lower back pain.
I immediately loved the way Pilates enabled me to build awareness of my movement patterns and change the ones that were working against me. Once I was introduced to the equipment, I found I made even more progress supported by the springs and their resistance.
I initially started my teacher training ‘just for myself’ but gradually discovered the joy of helping other people connect with their bodies and find better movement through Pilates.
I gained the Polestar certification as a comprehensive studio practitioner in March 2015, and have been teaching a mixture of studio and reformer classes ever since. I have completed additional training in Pilates for people with osteoporosis and scoliosis and elderly people, as well as exercise rehabilitation.
I love to work with older people, to give them the tools to maintain an active lifestyle and ease of movement, and with injury rehabilitation for athletes of all abilities.
After an exploratory taster day, I discovered an unexpected passion for massage and achieved the Jing Advanced Clinical Massage therapist qualification in 2018.
I offer several different types of massage:
Clinical massage can help to relieve pain and promote recovery for muscular conditions including:
The Jing approach uses a mixture of techniques – including myofascial release, trigger point release, work on attachment sites and sports stretching – to achieve long-term relief of pain for the client, within a relaxing environment which can further help to reduce stress and tension.
I find that the pairing of massage with Pilates enables more progress than with either as a standalone. Whatever your issue, I aim to deliver a relaxing and restoring experience.
Sessions are only £55 for 60 minutes (recommended) or £30 for 30 minutes. Your first session includes an additional free 15-minute consultation, and I will show you stretches for home (and your next Pilates session) to help prolong the effect of the treatment.
If you wish to book a massage or discuss any issues, please contact sue@thecorepilates.co.uk or call 07527 721616.
My classes are open to everyone whether you’re a beginner or advanced, as I tailor everything to your own ability. Every class uses mat work as its core and a full range of Body Balanced Pilates studio equipment including:

a specialist in mat work, and i love sharing my skills with clients to help them feel stronger, more flexible, relaxed and ready for any challenges…
My previous career was working in HR and I chose this because it was people orientated. I even went as far as reading for my MA in Human Resources, but always felt that something was missing.
I discovered Pilates after the birth of my first child as it helped me to regain physical strength, flexibility and fitness. I enjoyed the social aspect of the class and almost 10 years later, I’m still friends with the ladies and babies I met in the class. This is when I first realised that the ‘missing thing’ part was quite possibly Pilates!
I was wary of reformer Pilates at first – it looked like a torture bed! But I fell in love with it and have been doing a mixture of mat and reformer work ever since.
I’m now passionate about Pilates and truly believe it is for everyone, whether you are a beginner, exercise regularly, or are looking for rehabilitation from an injury. Pilates is a great form of exercise as it teaches good alignment (posture), breathing techniques and core stability. It also improves your flexibility, mobility and is great for your mental health as it promotes concentration and relaxation.
The best thing about Pilates is that you can adjust any exercise to meet the needs of the individual person. And the best part of teaching Pilates is watching people achieve their goals, get stronger, and more flexible.
I trained with Body Control Pilates, one of the UK’s top Pilates schools, as all of the teachers I admire had gone through their training programme. I’m currently a mat specialist and will also be a reformer specialist later this year.
My classes are open and to everyone whether you’re a beginner or advanced, as I tailor everything to your own ability. Every mat work class uses a full range of Body Balanced Pilates studio equipment including:
weighted balls
foam rollers
flex ring
elastic bands
